Santa Teresa di Riva (Messina Province) is 34 km from Messina, alt. 6 m, on the Ionian coast between the River Agro and the Savoca torrent area 8.1 sq km, pop. 8,052, post-code 98028, tel. 0942. Economy: agriculture, cement and metallurgy.

This is quite a densely populated town of fairly recent origin (late 18th century). It depended for many years on the commune of Savoca. It benefits from the advantages of its position on the busy coast-road which goes from Messina to Taormina and beyond.

Churches (Messina Diocese) include the following:

S. Maria del Carmelo (Chiesa Madre)
Sacra Famiglia
S. Maria di Porto Salvo (Barracca - suburb of Santa Teresa di Riva)
S. Vito M. (Misserio - suburb of Santa Teresa di Riva

My latest book on CD is titled Sicily - A Reference for Researchers and is now available. With a file for each town (plus many other files), it relates the history of Sicily as reflected in the photos, records and festivals of its towns. It contains over 2500 text and photo files and can be ordered at CD order.
