Aidone (Enna Province) is 35 km from Enna, alt. 800 m, in the Monti Erei, in the basin of the River Gornalunga, area 209.9 sq km, pop. 7,350, post-code 94010, tel. 0935. Agricultural economy.

This little town possibly began to develop in the 12th century around the Castle and the Priory of Santa Maria la Cava. It flourished under the Normans, the Swabians and the Aragonese.

Of interest: Gresti Castle; the nearby archeological site, Morgantina; and Regional Archeological Museum.

Churches (Piazza Armerina Diocese) include the following:

S. Lorenzo Martire (Chiesa Madre)
Santa Maria la Cava (In 1134 or the 14th century)
Maria SS. di Lourdes
San Domenico (15th century)
