This list of Prisoner of War Camps, Italian Service Unit Camps, and Prisoner of War Hospitals is still being developed with new locations added as we work through the weekly reports.
The POW Camps in Illinois during World War II included:
Camp Ellis, Table Grove, IL (POWs who were originally buried here were transferred to Ft. Sheridan, IL prior to February 1947) (base camp)
Camp Grant, Rockford, IL, now Rockford International Airport
Camp Grant Rifle Range (not contigious to the camp), now Atwood Park
Ellis Internment Camp, Lewistown, IL 61542
Fort Sheridan, IL 60037 (the Fort Sheridan National Cemetery contains POWs who died in IL, IN, NE and WI)
Gibson City, IL (branch camp under Camp Ellis, IL)
Hampshire POW Camp, Hampshire, IL 60140 (Branch Camp)
Hoopeston, IL (branch camp under Camp Ellis, IL)
Mayo General Hospital, IL (branch camp under Camp Ellis, IL)
Pomona, IL (branch camp under Camp Ellis, IL)
Washington, IL (branch camp under Camp Ellis, IL)

POWs were buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield and Fort Sheridan Post Cemetery.
