This list of Prisoner of War Camps, Italian Service Unit Camps, and Prisoner of War Hospitals is still being developed with new locations added as we work through the weekly reports.
The POW Camps in Arkansas during World War II included:
Camp Chaffee, Ft. Smith, AR 72905, called Fort Chaffee since 1956 (base camp)
Camp Dermott, Dermott, AR 71638 (base camp)
Camp Joseph T. Robinson, North Little Rock, AR
Camp Monticello, Monticello, AR
Jerome, AR
Lake Village, AR (branch camp under Camp Dermott, AR)
Pine Bluff Arsenal, near Pine Bluff, AR, now used by the US Army Corp of Engineers
Russellville, AR (branch camp under Camp Chaffee, AR)
POW Companies 7, 15, 14, and 16 in Monticello AR were all deemed undesirable. That sometimes meant Fascist supporters of Mussolini, or members of Fascist groups (including youth groups while growing up in Mussolini's Italy, or men who served in the Italian campaign in Spain as German allies, or men who supported Italy's monarchy (royalists), or the highest ranking military officers.
POWs were buried at Camp Joseph T. Robinson and Camp Chaffee.
