Montevago (Agrigento Province) is 106 km. from Agrigento, alt. 380 m., on the River Belice, area 32.5 sq. km., pop. over 3200, post-code 92010, tel. 0925. Economy: agriculture, sheep-farming, small building industry.

The village was founded in 1636 by Rutilio Xirotta, who became Prince of Montevago in 1642. It was later a fief of the Gravina family.

The village was destroyed by an earthquake in January 1968. A new village was built next door with wide parallel streets, social services grouped together, and long rows of low houses. However, there are not traditional points of reference, such as a central square or main street.

Nearby, Acque Calde is the site of ancient natural baths known for their curative properties and facilities for camping, picnics, riding, etc.

Churches (Agrigento Diocese) include the following:
San Pietro e Paolo (Chiesa Madre)

Families researched in those records include the following:
Bevilaqua
Bustana
Cacioppo
Catalano
Crifasi
di Giovanna
Insinga
