Montallegro (Agrigento Province) is 34 km. from Agrigento, alt. 100 m., on the slopes of the River Platani, area 27.3 sq. km., pop. over 3500, post-code 92010, tel. 0922. Economy: agriculture, stock-breeding, poultry farming, small food and wine industry.

The original town was on the Cicaldo Hill, northwest of the present site. This was gradually abandoned after the foundation of the new town in 1574, which developed under the Gioeni family in the two following centuries.
